Sheriff’s Office Participates in Trunk or Treat Event, Jenny Lind, CA
On October 21st, The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office participated in a “Trunk or Treat” at Jenny Lind Elementary School. Trunk-or-Treat is a Halloween tradition in which parked cars are decorated in the spirit of Halloween and filled with candy. Participants bring their cars to a central location where eventgoers view them. It is a safe and efficient alternative to traditional trick-or-treating. In this event, Deputies handed out candy, interacted with the children, and shared safety tips with all participants.
The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Jenny Lind Parent Teacher Organization for the invitation to assist with the event. Please review some safety tips associated with Halloween.
• Provide children with flashlights to carry for lighting or glow sticks as part of their costume
• A responsible adult should accompany young children on neighborhood rounds
• When sorting through candy at the end of the night, be sure to throw away any candy that is not in its original wrapper or looks as though it has been opened.
• Agree on a specific time children should return home
• Instruct children to travel only in familiar, well-lit areas and stick with their friends
• Children and adults are reminded to put electronic devices down, keep their heads up and walk, don't run across the street
• While driving- Watch for children walking on roadways, medians and curbs. Watch for children in dark clothing at twilight and later in the evening.
