Press Release -- Vehicle Theft Averted, Suspect Arrested
On 10/26/23 at approximately 0423 hours, RCPD Dispatch received two calls from the area of Sanchez Way and Oak Avenue reporting the sound of gunshots. The suspects fled the scene in a dark colored Charger and black Chevrolet Corvette. Officers located the suspect vehicles in the area of Woodside Road and Broadway. The black Corvette collided into a street sign on the southbound HWY 101 off-ramp at Woodside Road and the driver fled on foot. The Charger was last need northbound HWY 101. Officers set up a perimeter with the assistane of CHP, San Mateo Councy Sheriff's Office, and Atherton PD. Atherton PD utilized a drone with infrared technology to identify an area in the bushes where the suspect was believed to be hiding. Officers utilized a K9 for the ground search and located the Driver, Alex Stuart Cisneros-Mencos. He was taken into custody without incident. The black Corvette was found to be a reported stolen vehicle out of the San Jose, CA.
At the original crime scene on Sanchez Way, the following chain of events were determined to have occurred. The Reporting Party (RP) heard suspicious sounds coming from the street in front of his residence. He went outside to find the Charger and Corvette parked out front with approximately six subjects associated to them. He heard a loud noise that sounded like possible gunfire. The RP has a CCW permit and was armed at the time. He pointed his firearm to the ground and fired a warning shot to scare off the suspects. The suspects entered the two vehicles and were last seen by the RP traveling southbound on Sanchez Way.
