INCIDENT: Apprehension of Armed and Dangerous Suspect

SUMMARY:
On Thursday, October 26, 2023, at approximately 12:25 PM, San Bernardino County Sheriff's SWAT personnel and deputies with the Colorado River Station located Robert Cleland, an armed and dangerous suspect, in the 800 block of Market St., Needles Ca. Cleland was wanted for an attempted homicide that occurred in Needles weeks earlier.
Upon arrival to the location, several subjects exited the front of the residence as instructed by law enforcement on scene. One of the subjects, Michael Jewell, was found to have a felony, no bail warrant and was subsequently arrested for a probation violation for burglary.
Cleland fled out the back door and barricaded himself under the residence. Law enforcement officers attempted to get Cleland to surrender for several hours. Less lethal weapons were deployed, however, Cleland would not surrender.
Deputies knew the exact location of Cleland under the residence, created an access point through the crawl space, and took him into custody.
Cleland was booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga where he is being held without bail.
