On Sunday, October 29, 2023, at 10:20PM, Officers were sent to a bar in the 2800 block of Amarillo Boulevard East on a shooting. When officers arrived, they found the victim, deceased, on the floor in the bar. Officers learned the suspect and the victim had been in an argument, and the suspect left. He returned a short time later and shot and killed the victim. The victim is identified as Jose Gerardo Morales Zavala, male, age 31, and his family has been notified. The suspect was located at his home and taken into custody after a short standoff, without incident by Amarillo PD SWAT. The suspect in this incident is Daniel Martinez, male, age 18. He was booked into the Potter County Detention Center for Murder. The case is assigned to the Amarillo PD Homicide Unit and the investigation is ongoing.
