INCIDENT: In Custody Death Investigation
LOCATION: High Desert Detention Center, Adelanto
DECEASED: Adult Male – Name Withheld Pending Next of Kin Notification
SUMMARY: On Monday, October 30, 2023, deputies assigned to the High Desert Detention Center were alerted to a suicide attempt by an inmate. Responding deputies located a male inmate who had attempted to hang himself and immediately rendered medical aid. Jail medical staff and American Medical Response (AMR) responded, and the inmate was transported to a local hospital. Despite life-saving measures, the inmate was pronounced deceased.
Detectives with the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division responded and are conducting the investigation. The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
