Crime Blotter for the Week of October 22, 2023 - October 28, 2023

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of October 22, 2023 – October 28, 2023.        
 
October 22, 2023

  • No significant activity.
 
October 23, 2023
  • Burglary (Vehicle):
1800 Block of 2nd Street. Between October 21, 2023 9 PM and October 23, 2023 8 AM suspect(s) unknown entered the victim’s “locked” vehicle, a 2016 Nissan Versa and ransacked the glove box. The suspect(s) stole the victim’s gate opener. The loss was approximately $40. No video surveillance is available.
 
  • Petty Theft:
1322 Huntington Drive (Grocery Outlet). On October 23, 2023 at 7 PM, the suspect, a female white in her 60’s, took the victim’s wallet as it was left unattended at the register of the location. The loss was approximately $100. Surveillance video is available.
 
  • Grand Theft Auto:
1800 Block of Buena Vista Street. Between October 22, 2023 12 AM and October 23, 2023 9:56 PM, suspect(s) unknown stole the victim's parked vehicle, a blue 2015 Honda CRV. No surveillance video is available.
 
October 24, 2023
  • Aggravated Assault:
2000 Block of Buena Vista Street. On October 24, 2023 at 12:30 AM, the victim and her mother were at the location arguing, when the victim’s mother began to get aggressive. The victim attempted to deescalate the situation by going to her room when the suspect began to slap the victim in the face. The victim attempted to block the assault when the suspect took the victim to the ground and slammed her head into the wall. The victim left and went to the hospital, where she was treated for a concussion. Suspect outstanding. No video surveillance is available.
 
  • Petty Theft (Shoplifting):
1600 Mountain Avenue (Walmart). On October 24, 2023 at 7:55 PM, the suspect a female black adult in her 30’s wearing a black sweater and black shorts entered the location and went to the women’s clothing department where she selected multiple clothing items. The suspect proceeded to the self-checkout area, where it appeared she purchased everything. As the suspect was exiting the location, she was asked by loss prevention for her receipt. The suspect showed a receipt that said the transaction was declined. Loss Prevention asked the suspect to return the items, at which point the suspect dropped a few items and walked out of the store with some shoes and a pair of pants. The suspect was last seen walking towards Mountain Avenue and out of view. The loss was approximately $100. Surveillance video is available.
 
  • Grand Theft Auto (Theft by fraud):
1131 Central Avenue (CarMax). On August 7, 2023 at 7:26 AM, suspect unknown fraudulently purchased a white 2021 Lexus 300 from the business. The business reported the incident on October 24, 2023 at 12:53 PM. No surveillance video is available.
 
October 25, 2023
  • Burglary (Vehicle):
1307 Park Rose Avenue. On October 25, 2023 between 2:30 PM and 7 PM, suspect(s) unknown entered the victim’s “locked” vehicle, a 2022 Dodge Challenger, and ransacked the glove box. The suspect(s) stole the victim’s wallet and contents. The loss was approximately $325. No video surveillance is available.

October 27, 2023
  • Petty Theft:
1600 Block of Duncannon Avenue. Between October 26, 2023 9:30 PM and October 27, 2023 11 AM, suspect(s) unknown stole the victim’s catalytic converter from his parked vehicle, a 2006 Toyota Corolla. The loss was approximately $800. No video surveillance is available. 
 
October 28, 2023
  • Burglary (Commercial):
934 Hamilton Road (Hindustani Express). On October 28, 2023 at 3:15 AM, suspect unknown, a male Hispanic adult 5’09”, 210 lbs wearing a black cap, black shirt and blue jeans, shattered the front window to the location. The suspect entered the business and attempted to open the register. Unable to open the register, the suspect walked to the rear of the location, where he encountered the witness. The suspect appeared surprised to find the witness inside of the closed business but asked him for the keys to the register and for the money. After several times, the suspect fled the location. Video surveillance is available.
 
HOLIDAY SHOPPING SAFETY TIPS
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Remember where you parked your car.
  • If shopping late in the day or after dark, park in an area that is well lighted.
  • Shop in pairs at the very least.
  • As you return to your car, make sure to keep your car key in your hand.
  • Do not leave packages visible in your car. Lock them in the trunk or, if possible, take them directly home.
  • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
