Juvenile suspect arrested in connection with shooting investigation 
Case #SMPD23-0014723
On Thursday, November 2, 2023, at about 3:20 PM, officers responded to the report of a shooting that just occurred in the 1500 block of S. Broadway. Officers arrived and located a 15-year-old male juvenile suffering from gunshot wound injuries. The suspect in this case fled the scene and was not initially apprehended. The juvenile victim was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment where he remains in serious condition.
The initial investigation revealed a verbal conflict between two groups of juveniles preceded the shooting that occurred in a public parking lot and area of commerce.
Detectives took over the investigation that resulted in the shooter in this case being identified as a 14-year-old male juvenile and Santa Maria resident. On Friday, November 3, 2023, at about 10:20 AM, the juvenile suspect was located and taken into custody by investigators without incident. A search warrant was also served at the suspect’s residence and this investigation is still active and ongoing.
The juvenile suspect was booked into the Santa Maria Juvenile Hall on felony charges that include assault with a deadly weapon and weapons charges for a minor carrying a loaded firearm in public.
Th Santa Maria Police Department does not believe there are any active public safety concerns associated with this investigation.
