El Cerrito Police Department crime blotter from October 22nd to October 28th.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from October 22nd to October 28th.

October 22nd


Stolen Vehicle- 10900 Block of San Pablo Ave:
At 10:43 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s vehicle.

October 23rd

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Lexington Ave at Eureka Ave.
At 9:15 AM an officer recovered an unoccupied stolen vehicle out of Santa Clara PD.  The vehicle was towed and the owner was notified.

Brandishing of a Firearm– Home Depot parking lot 11939 San Pablo Ave.
At 10:50 AM the victim was standing in the parking lot when the suspect drove by him and brandished a firearm at the victim.  The suspect was placed under citizen’s arrest. Officers were unable to locate the firearm.  The suspect was booked at the police department and released on a citation.   

Vandalism – El Cerrito Library 6510 Stockton Ave.
At 12:49 PM the suspect shattered the front glass door with a large cinder block, and fled the area on foot.  

Commercial Burglary –7140 Gladys Ave. (Cameron School)
At 11:07 AM the reporting called police after he found that over the weekend the suspect entered the school and spray painted graffiti in the classrooms.

Assault and Battery – El Cerrito Plaza
At 3:49 PM several juveniles and an adult assaulted another juvenile.  The suspects fled prior to police arrival.  The victim was transported to the hospital by ambulance for their injuries, and their parents were notified.

Robbery – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway).
At 7:17 PM officers were dispatched to a battery.  Upon further investigation, the subject attempted to steal items from the business and was confronted by security.  The subject attempted to fight with security and flee the store.  The subject was detained, arrested and later transported to county jail.

Misappropriation of Lost Property / Fraud – 11896 San Pablo Ave (Nug).
At 10:20 PM the victim reported leaving his wallet at the business.  The suspect found the wallet and attempted to make several online purchases, but it was declined.

October 24th

Reported Stolen Vehicle – 5300 block of Cypress Ave.
At 7:49 AM the reporting party advised that someone stole their vehicle sometime last night.  

Auto Burglary – 5500 block of MacDonald Ave.
At 7:56 AM the victim discovered that their driver side window was shattered, and tools were stolen.

Assault and Battery –10602 San Pablo Ave. (Exxon)
At 10:05 AM the suspect got into an argument with the victim and spat in the victim’s face.  The suspect fled in their vehicle prior to police arrival.   

Vandalism – 800 block of Richmond St.
At 10:03 AM the victim reported that their vehicle’s rear driver side window was shattered. 

Shoplifting –2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross)
At 10:22 AM the suspect stole miscellaneous items and fled on foot towards Plaza BART. 

Stolen Vehicle – 11545 San Pablo Ave.
At 11:52 AM the victim reported that someone stole their vehicle.

Robbery – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky).
At 5:27 PM officers were dispatched to a vandalism.  Upon further investigation, the subject attempted to steal items from the business and was confronted by employees.  The subject dropped the items and hit employees.  The subject was detained, arrested and later transported to county jail.

Petty Theft – 7400 Block of Fairmount Ave.
At 6:25 PM the suspect was captured on video surveillance stealing packages from the victim’s residence.  The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival.

October 25th

Skimming Device –10422 San Pablo Ave. (Bank of America)
At 12:02PM, a suspect placed a skimming device on one of the ATM’s.

Residential Burglary – 900 block of Elm St.
At 3:15 PM the suspect entered the victim’s residence through an unsecured door and stole miscellaneous items.

Stolen Vehicle – 6700 block of Fairmount Ave.
At 4:34 PM the victim reported that their vehicle was stolen.   

Auto Burglary – 600 Block of Lexington Ave.
At 4:34 AM the victim reports 15k worth of items were taken from their vehicle sometime overnight.

October 26th

Vandalism – 400 block of Lexington Ave.
At 11:20 AM the victim’s side window on their vehicle was shattered.

Vandalism – 700 block of Kearney St.
At 12:58 PM the suspect wrote graffiti with a permanent marker on the victim’s driveway. 

October 27th

Vehicle Theft – 500 block of Albemarle St:
At 8:23 AM a CSO reports the theft of a vehicle sometime after 1815 hours on 10/26.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle / Felony Evading / Parole Violation / Warrants /  San Pablo Ave at Fairmount Ave:
At 9:29 and 9:30 AM, Flock (automated License Plate Reader cameras) hits were received for a stolen vehicle last seen southbound on Ashbury Ave at Central Ave.  The vehicle was located at San Pablo Ave and Fairmount Ave and a traffic stop was initiated on San Pablo Ave at Moeser Lane.
The vehicle failed to yield and a vehicle pursuit ensued, eventually ending when the suspect vehicle lost control and came to rest against a sound wall on SR37 in Vallejo.  The driver fled on foot and was apprehended by a police K-9.
The driver was arrested and they were transported to the hospital to be treated for superficial dog bite wounds.  They were later transported to county jail.

Vehicle Theft– San Pablo Ave / Knott Ave:
At 1:28 PM an officer reports the theft of a vehicle taken over the previous 10 minutes.

October 28th

Vehicle Theft – 6700 block of Gladys Ave:
At 6:42 AM an officer reports the theft of a vehicle sometime overnight.  The vehicle was recovered by Kensington PD in the early morning hours after a brief pursuit and collision. 

Vehicle Theft – 11755 San Pablo Ave (EC Honda):
At 8:38 AM an officer reports the theft of a vehicle from the car lot just after 5:00 AM.

Battery – 11785 San Pablo Ave (Launderland):
At 10:17 AM an unidentified suspect “poked” the victim with a screw causing no injury, then threw an empty detergent bottle at the victim, striking her on the leg and again causing no injury.

Petty Theft – 2200 block of Humboldt Ave:
At 10:49 AM an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole items from the victim’s vehicle between midnight and 10:45 AM.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon – 11888 San Pablo Ave (Nug):
At 1:59 PM a customer was denied entry to the business because he did not have an ID.  The man became irate and challenged the security guards to a fight.  He then picked up a rock about 7 inches across and threw it at the security guard, striking him on the wrist and causing a contusion and abrasions.

Battery- 11888 San Pablo Ave (Nug):
At 6:59 PM an officer reports an employee requested a customer show him her identification card before being admitted into the business. When the customer refused, the employee pushed the person out of the business and the customer spat in the employee’s face.

Commercial Burglary - 5010 El Cerrito Plaza (Dave’s Hot Chicken):
At 8:40 PM an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the employees’ locker room and stole an employee backpack containing her ATM card. The suspect later attempted to use the card at the Berkeley BART station.

Driving Under the Influence - 900 block of Avis Dr:
At 11:17 PM, officers were dispatched to the area for a collision. Upon arrival officers located a driver who had collided into four parked vehicles. During the investigation officers determined the driver was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. The driver was arrested and transported to the ECPD for booking. After booking, the driver was issued a citation and released to a relative.

Driving Under the Influence- San Pablo Ave. and Tehama Ave:
At 2:22 AM, officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and noticed the driver had objective signs of being under the influence. Officers conducted a DUI investigation and arrested the driver for driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. The driver was transported to the ECPD for booking. After booking, the driver was issued a citation and released to a family member.
