Narrative:
On 10/31/2023, an unlocked vehicle was stolen from the area of Spring Road / Princeton Avenue in Moorpark, CA.  Later that same day, detectives with the Ventura County Auto Theft Task Force (VENCATT) located and recovered the stolen vehicle in the unincorporated area of Moorpark.  Personal items not belonging to the vehicle owner, including identification cards and credit cards, were located inside the stolen vehicle.  Detectives contacted the owners of the recovered items and determined the items had been stolen from the owners’ unlocked vehicle during the early morning hours of 10/31/2023.

Video surveillance footage assisted detectives from the Moorpark Special Enforcement Unit and Felony Crimes Investigation Unit to positively identify the suspect in both crimes as Raymond Hinojosa.

On 11/02/2023, Hinojosa was located by Moorpark patrol deputies in the city of Moorpark and arrested on unrelated charges.  Hinojosa was interviewed by detectives in relation to the theft cases, during which he made incriminating statements and admissions further linking him to the crimes.  Hinojosa is in custody at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura for charges relating to motor vehicle theft, receiving stolen property, petty theft from a vehicle, and drug intoxication.

The Ventura County Sheriff's Office would like to remind the public to safeguard themselves from potential crime by taking the extra step to secure both their vehicles and valuables.

VENCATT is a multi-agency taskforce funded through grant programs in the County of Ventura.  The task force represents a highly trained and effective law enforcement team, working directly with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, to specifically target criminals who steal cars, operate “chop shops”, and in some cases, take vehicles by force (carjacking).
