INCIDENT:  2023-25201  Shoplifting
 
DATE & TIME OCCURRED:  9/02/23  at  6:25 PM
 
LOCATION OCCURRED:  Target, 500 Nassau Park Blvd.

Arrested: Edwin Yunen
                Resident of Corona, NY 11368
 
DETAILS:  Ptl. Fattibene was detailed to Target for a shoplifter who was being detained by store Asset Protection. Investigation found that Edwin Yunen selected multiple boxes of Lego sets, put them into his shopping cart, and covered the boxes with other merchandise. He also removed price tags from low priced items and put them onto higher priced merchandise. Yunen went to the self-checkout where he scanned a few items, and either did not pay or underpaid for $524.50 worth of goods. Yunen was processed at WWPD and released pending a future court date.

Arrested: Jonathan Jose Asitimbay-Sosa

DETAILS:  While on a Driving While Impaired enforcement campaign, Ptl. McQuade observed a gray Dodge Challenger traveling at a high rate of speed on U.S. Route 1 in the left lane. The Dodge caught up to a slower moving car in front of it and began following it very closely before going around it, then back into the left lane and accelerating to 85 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. The Dodge then made an unsafe lane change almost causing a crash, and started tailgating the same car it almost hit. Ptl. McQuade initiated a stop, and during the stop, Jonathan Jose Asitimbay-Sosa was determined to be DWI. In addition to an open container of an alcoholic beverage, he was also in possession of marijuana. Asitimbay-Sosa was processed at WWPD and released pending future court dates.

DETAILS:  Ptl. E. McQuade was on a Driving While Impaired enforcement campaign when he observed a blue Chrysler mini-van driving in the shoulder of Old Trenton Rd.
After catching up to the mini-van, he observed it drifting back and forth, failing to stay within its lane, and speeding. Just before Ptl. McQuade activated his emergency lights to stop the mini-van, it drove off of the roadway and into the grass shoulder. Ptl. McQuade initiated a stop, and Kevin Fernandez-Leon was found to be DWI. He was processed at WWPD and released pending future court dates.

DETAILS:  Patrol Units were detailed to the parking lot of the MarketFair mall for a disorderly person. Ptl. Caulfield located Michele Alvarez in the back of the mall by the loading docks. While she was being detained, she was found to have a warrant for her arrest from New Brunswick. Alvarez was processed at WWPD Headquarters and later turned over to New Brunswick Police on their warrant.

Accused:  Eric S. Holdfolder
                 Resident of Newark, NJ 07108

DETAILS:  Patrol Units were detailed to Burlington for a shoplifting in progress. A shoplifter had pushed a cart full of merchandise (valued at $483.29) out the store without paying, and when Asset Protection confronted him outside, he abandoned the cart and ran away. The shoplifter got away, but investigation determined that he had staged and left another cart in the store. During a check of that cart, personal property was found including a prescription bottle and documents from the NJ State Parole Board which helped identify the shoplifter as Eric Holdfolder. Holdfolder was later charged with Shoplifting and has a court date pending.

                Resident of Perrineville, NJ 08535
 
DETAILS:  Ptl. McQuade was detailed to a hit and run crash on Quakerbridge Rd. Investigation determined that a gray Audi SUV, driven by Timothy Trifiro, was merging onto Quakerbridge Rd. after getting off of U.S. Route 1 and drove into the side of a Nissan SUV that was going straight ahead on Quakerbridge Rd. After the crash, Trifiro kept driving despite the fact that his SUV now had a flat tire. After going over a mile down the road, the driver of the Nissan got in front of Trifiro’s SUV, got out, and confronted Trifiro about hitting his car. Trifiro backed up, drove around the Nissan, and kept going while the other driver followed. Trifiro finally stopped after driving into a Shell gas station in Hamilton. Trifiro was determined to be DWI and arrested. He was processed at WWPD and released pending future court dates.

DETAILS:  Patrol Units responded to Eastern Mountain Sports on the report of two shoplifters in the store who were concealing clothing into their bags. Officers arrived and waited outside, and a few minutes later, Denise Nixon and Adrienne Mazzuca walked out of the store and were detained. In their possession was $568.00 worth of clothing and also a magnetic anti-shoplifting tag removal tool. Nixon had a warrant for her arrest from Millstone, while Mazzuca had warrants for her arrest from Hamilton, Trenton, and Manchester. Both were processed at WWPD and released pending future court dates.

DETAILS:  Patrol Units were detailed to TJ Maxx for a shoplifting. The shoplifter, later identified as Kinyata White, pushed a cart full of merchandise taken from TJ Maxx out to her car, loaded her car with the goods, and then went into the Target store. Officers located White in the store and took her into custody. $320.23 worth of TJ Maxx property was recovered from her car and returned to the store. White was processed at WWPD and released pending a future court date.

DETAILS:  Patrol Units were detailed to TJ Maxx for a shoplifting in progress involving three suspects, two of which had already left the store and were sitting in a white mini-van. Ptl. A. Ventura found the mini-van and the two suspects inside immediately got out and ran away. As this was happening, the third suspect, identified as Hector Ruiz, walked out of the store and was detained by Ptl. Ventura. One of the suspects who fled from the mini-van was found by Ptl. K. LaForge and Ptl. M. Thompson and identified as Carlos Chung. Investigation determined that Ruiz entered the store first. He took a black garbage bag out of his pocket, selected shoes and removed their inventory control tags from them using a special device, and placed the shoes into the garbage bag. A short time later one of the suspects entered the store, met with Ruiz, took the garbage bag full of shoes from him and walked out of the store without paying. Ruiz then took a reusable shopping bag from the front of the store, filled that with women’s clothing, and later handed it off to the other suspect. All of the merchandise (valued at $1,384.28) was brought out to the mini-van where it was later recovered and returned to TJ Maxx. Both Ruiz and Chung had warrants for their arrest from East Windsor. Chung was also found to be a “Wanted Person” out of Essex County. Ruiz and Chung were processed at WWPD and committed to the Mercer County Corrections Center.

DETAILS:  While on a Driving While Impaired enforcement campaign, Ptl. McQuade observed a black Tesla speeding on New Village Rd. He caught up to the Tesla and observed the vehicle weaving back and forth in its lane, and occasionally driving across the lane markings. Ptl. McQuade stopped the vehicle and determined that the driver, Dong Zhou, was DWI. Zhou was processed at WWPD and released pending future court dates.

DETAILS:  While on a Driving While Impaired enforcement campaign, Ptl. McQuade observed a black Toyota pickup truck having difficulty staying in its lane while traveling on U.S. Route 1, crossing over the marked lanes several different times and interfering with traffic in the other lanes. Ptl. McQuade activated his emergency lights to stop the pickup truck, but it just kept going. Ptl. McQuade had to use his siren and air horn to finally get the pickup to stop. During the stop, the driver, Jan Kulpinski, was determined to be DWI. Kulpinski was processed at WWPD and released pending future court dates.

DETAILS:  Patrol Units were detailed to TJ Maxx for a shoplifter who was removing security tags from clothing and concealing the items into his backpack. Before leaving the store, the shoplifter became wary and removed over $400 worth of clothing from his bag and went into the Burlington store. Responding officers found him and identified him as Brayan Garcia-Medina. TJ Maxx Loss Prevention also recognized Garcia-Medina from a shoplifting on September 11th (Incident #2023-26080) where he had stolen $500 worth of men’s clothing and a purse after removing security tags from those items. Garcia-Medina was charged with both shopliftings. He was processed at WWPD and released pending future court dates.
