Wilmington Police have arrested a man on gun charges.
On October 28, at approximately 9:12 p.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 1700 block of Lancaster Avenue, in reference to an assault. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim who advised they had been assaulted in the area of 1300 West 7th Street. Officers responded to the 1300 block of West 7th Street, and attempted to make contact with 18-year-old Mekhi Johnson, who fled on foot. Following a brief foot pursuit, Johnson was taken into custody without incident and officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun.
Johnson has been charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Assault (Second Degree)
- Aggravated Menacing
- Receiving a Stolen
- Resisting Arrest
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $25,100 cash-only bail.
