Mark your calendars for November 15 as Houston TranStar joins forces with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Houston-Galveston Area Council, and the Houston Automobile Dealer’s Association to recognize Crash Responder Safety Week (CRSW), bringing to light the courageous and often underrepresented stories of local responders.

“Every day, traffic incident responders risk their lives to ensure roads are functional and safe,” said Brian Mason, TranStar’s Executive Director.

Participating agencies in this event work roadway crashes daily alongside firefighters, emergency medical services, law enforcement, towing and recovery, public works, and safety service patrols.

Collectively, traffic incident responders assist road users in distress, applying rehearsed procedures to provide emergency traffic control and quickly clear incidents from roadways.

“We often work inches from cars and trucks driving by way too fast, sometimes 80 miles per hour or more,” said Ed Gonzalez, Harris County Sheriff. “We want drivers in Houston to understand the risks that responders take every day, and we need for vehicles passing by traffic incidents to slow down, move over, and stay alert.”

On-Site Visuals and Interviews for Media Partners:

  • Crashed and/or wrecked vehicles from previous incidents
  • Interviews with Law Enforcement who have been hit while responding to incidents
  •  Interviews with traffic safety personnel from TranStar, H-GAC, HADA, TxDOT, Houston Fire Department Chief, Houston Police Department, and Houston Public Works
  • Opportunities for media to capture photography and B-Roll for publishing and broadcast
