A Veterans Day Message From Mayor Charlie Carley

Ernest Hemingway wrote, “Every man has two deaths, when he is buried in the ground and the last time someone says his name. In some ways, men can be immortal.”

That is why we gather on Veterans Day. To remember the Women and Men who have secured our freedoms. The Veterans, living and passed, should be immortal in Memory.

We cannot paper over the fact that our American experiment has been turbulent. But through centuries of endurance, we Americans have hewed to principals. The right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. The desire to form a More Perfect Union. The Rights to Freedoms of Religion, Speech, the Press, Peaceful Assembly, and Petition of the Government. That government of the People, by the People, for the People, shall not perish from the Earth.

These principals have been upheld by Veterans all around us in Body and in Memory. They believe in this Nation. They continue to serve this Nation and its noble Ideals.
Reflect upon their Service.
