Incident: Vehicle Theft Arrest

Occurred Time: 07:34 PM
Location: Weller Street/ East D Street, Petaluma
Suspect: Michael Bailey (50-Year-Old Petaluma Transient)
On November 10th at approximately 7:34 PM, the Petaluma Police Department Dispatch Center received a 911 call from a community member reporting someone had just stolen his truck, with their dog in it. The victim provided a description of his truck and multiple Petaluma Police officers searched the area for it but were unsuccessful in locating it.
A county wide “be on the lookout” was broadcasted to neighboring agencies to notify them we were searching for a stolen vehicle. At approximately 8:05 PM a Santa Rosa Police Officer located the stolen vehicle traveling on northbound Highway 101 in Santa Rosa.
The SRPD officer attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect fled from the officer in the stolen vehicle. A vehicle pursuit ensued and eventually traveled southbound on Highway 101 into Petaluma.
A Petaluma Police Officer utilized a “spike strip” by throwing it in front of the fleeing vehicle and successfully punctured the tires, causing them to deflate. Shortly after, the suspect stopped the vehicle on southbound Highway 101, just south of the Old Redwood Highway overpass.
The suspect was safely taken into custody after he surrendered to the officers and was identified as Michael Carter Bailey, a 50-year-old Petaluma transient. Bailey was placed under arrest for the following:
10851 CVC- Vehicle Theft,
1203.2 PC- Felony Probation Violation
2800.1 CVC- Evading a Peace Officer.
Bailey was transported to the Sonoma County Jail and booked for the above listed charges.
The victim’s dog was returned to him unharmed, along with his vehicle.
