United Against Hate Week November 12th - 18th
The Berkeley Police Department is proud to announce its unwavering support for United Against Hate Week, a critical initiative to foster inclusivity, promote understanding, and combat all forms of hate within our community. The Berkeley Police Department is committed to protecting the vulnerable and striving for a future free from discrimination and prejudice.
At the center of our purpose is the unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of every individual. We recognize that hate crimes and acts of discrimination not only harm the immediate victims but also erode the fabric of our society, undermining the trust and unity that is essential for a thriving community.
United Against Hate Week reminds us of the power of speaking up and out about our commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of all residents, regardless of their race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic.
Today and every day, our Department is proud to advocate for all community members and firmly believes in justice, fairness, and equality. As a Department, we are conscientious of rejecting any form of hate speech, bigotry, or prejudice that seeks to divide our community and will continue to stand with those who stand against hate. Together, we demonstrate our unwavering commitment and support to fostering an environment where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued.
In 2020, The City Council created a referral to the City Manager titled “Improving Hate Crimes Reporting and Response.” In part, our Department has made a concerted effort to respond to the referral requests, launching a public information campaign and displaying the data on our Current Trends page on the Berkeley Police Transparency Hub.
