Captain Deborah Borchelt announces her retirement after 27 plus years of service to Gibson County.

 Captain Deborah Borchelt has announced that she will retire from the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office effective November 20, 2023 after over 27 years of service to Gibson County. 
 
Deborah Borchelt started her career in public service with Gibson County in 1996 when spent four years working for the Gibson County Ambulance Service as an Advanced EMT.  In addition to serving as an EMT Ms. Borchelt came to the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office in 1997 where she worked as a Communications Officer for two years before becoming a Merit Deputy.  Ms. Borchelt has quickly advanced through the ranks at the Sheriff’s Office where she was promoted to a Detective Sergeant in 2008 and ultimately a Captain in 2012.  In addition to her service with the Ambulance Service and the Sheriff’s Office Captain Borchelt served as the Chief Deputy Coroner from 2017-2018.
 
Captain Borchelt has not only served the citizens county as employee, but in serving on several professional and community boards including, but not limited to:

  • The Indiana Sheriff’s Association -Executive Board of Directors, Legislative Committee, and Youth Leadership Camp Committee. 
  • FBI National Academy Indiana Chapter- Youth Leadership Program Selection Committee
  • Gibson County Sheriff’s Office Pension Board
  • National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives
  • National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives
  • Gibson County Child Fatality Review Team
  • Gibson County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 114 – Past President, Past Secretary/Treasurer

Captain Borchelt has also been honored and recognized by the following organizations and clubs:

Employees of the Sheriff’s Office will host an Open House in her honor at the Gibson County Community Correction Conference Room located at 112 E. Emerson Street, Princeton Indiana on Monday, November 20, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The public is encouraged and invited to attend.
