Suspect Arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon

A man threatened to kill a security guard at San Mateo Medical Center.  The man was located and arrested.

San Mateo, CA – On November 14, 2023, at 23:50 p.m., the San Mateo Police Department arrested a man for assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, and other charges.  The suspect, Miguel Boch-Chamale, threatened to kill a security guard at San Mateo Medical Center with a knife.  Boch-Chamale threw incendiary devices at the hospital and staff before running away.  Officers located Boch-Chamale a few blocks away and arrested him for multiple charges.

San Mateo Police Department received a 911 call from a community member stating she heard a loud “bang” near San Mateo Medical Center.  Moments later, we received another 911 call from San Mateo Medical Center stating a male suspect, later identified as Miguel Boch-Chamale, was armed with a knife, threatened to kill a security officer, and threw an incendiary device at the hospital and staff.  The security guard, in fear for his life, discharged his weapon into the air.

Multiple officers immediately responded to the hospital, and San Mateo Medical Center staff activated their lockdown protocol as a result of the incident.  During the initial investigation, officers learned Boch-Chamale attempted to get into the hospital and was asked to leave by security staff.  While in the parking lot, Boch-Chamale brandished a knife and threatened to kill a security guard.  Boch-Chamale ran toward the security guard while holding the knife.  The security guard was in fear for his life, discharged his weapon into the air, firing one shot.  This caused Boch-Chamale to briefly run away from the security guard.  Boch-Chamale then threw an incendiary device, later determined to be an exploding firework, at the security guard before running away from the hospital.

Officers were able to get a description of Boch-Chamale and searched the area for him.  Officers located Boch-Chamale near the intersection of 36th Avenue and Colegrove Street.  Boch-Chamale was arrested for multiple charges.
