INCIDENT: PC 664/187(a) - Attempted Murder
LOCATION: 6500 Block of Mariposa Avenue, Twentynine Palms
SUSPECT(S): Michael Champagne, 33 year-old Resident of Twentynine Palms
VICTIM(S): Confidential
SUMMARY: On November 16, 2023, at approximately 5:15 a.m., Morongo Basin Station deputies responded to an assault in the 6500 block of Mariposa Avenue in the city of Twentynine Palms. During their investigation, deputies contacted the victim and learned her husband assaulted her using a belt, and strangled her to the point of asphyxiation and unconciousness. Deputies determined the suspect in this matter was Twentynine Palms resident Michael Champagne.
Champagne was arrested for violation of Penal Code 664/187 - Attempted Murder and booked into the Morongo Basin Jail. His bail has been set at $1,000,000.
