City of Hoboken & Hoboken Business Alliance invite residents to annual Christmas Tree Lighting

The City of Hoboken and Hoboken Business Alliance invite residents to the annual Christmas Tree Lighting, on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 5 p.m.

The festivities, which will take place at 11th and Washington Streets, will feature Elvis the Elf, live performances by Hoboken youth, and a special guest appearance by Santa Claus. Local Hoboken businesses including Merry Hot Cocoa, Apple Montessori School, and the Hive will provide free hot cocoa and baked goods to attendees.

The Hoboken Police Department will be present to collect unwrapped toys and gift cards of any denomination for families in need this holiday. Additionally, the Hoboken Community Center will also be accepting donations of non-perishable items for their pantry and the Hoboken Shelter will be collecting shower supplies to support their shower program.

The City will also provide free hop service to and from the tree lighting. Pickup will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Multi-Service Center at 124 Grand St. and stop at the following locations:

  • Columbian Towers
  • Adams Gardens
  • Columbian Arms
  • Hoboken Housing Authority
  • Monroe Gardens
  • Fox Hill Gardens

Pickup will be at 12th and Washington Streets following the end of the tree lighting.

“The annual Hoboken Christmas Tree Lighting is a celebration of joy and community and this year, we are not just lighting up the night but also giving back to those in need with opportunities to support local non-profits and causes to help our most vulnerable residents,” said Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla. “I encourage all our residents to come out and kick off the holiday season with us on Nov. 28, enjoy free cocoa, a visit from Santa Claus, and more. Thank you to the Hoboken Business Alliance for their partnership in making this event possible.”

“The HBA is again thrilled to welcome all of Hoboken back to our Community Tree Lighting Celebration,” said Roxanne Earley, Executive Director of the Hoboken Business Alliance. “We have plenty of goodies and holiday cheer in store on Washington and in local businesses around town. Get your holiday shopping started early by visiting nearby stores before or after the tree lighting and be on the lookout for special in-store deals and promotions! In the spirit of giving, we also invite members of the community to join the HBA in supporting the donation drives of our community partners to ensure that everyone in Hoboken is able to share in the warmth and joy of this special season.”

The City will also offer discounted metered on-street parking starting on Nov. 28 through Dec. 31 to promote local shopping and dining this holiday season. Drivers can use promo code "SHOPHOB" in the ParkMobile app to receive 50 percent off parking sessions through the end of the year. Fifty percent off parking sessions will be valid in select zones, primarily in business districts, and can be viewed by clicking here.

Starting on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 25, the City will also offer free parking for up to four hours in municipal Garage B (28 Second Street), Garage D (215 Hudson Street), and the Midtown Garage (371 Fourth Street) on weekends. In order to redeem the free parking, drivers will need to show the garage attendant a receipt showing purchase of at least $20 at Hoboken shopping or dining establishments. The discount will be offered through Dec. 31, 2023.

As a reminder, the City also offers a parking reservations program, which allows residents and visitors to reserve a parking space in advance in Municipal Garage B at 28 Second St., Garage D at 215 Hudson St., and the Midtown Garage at 371 Fourth St. Users can reserve a space in one of the garages via the ParkMobile app Monday through Thursday from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., and from 6 p.m. on Friday to midnight on Sunday.
