Missing Hiker, Arnold

Updated Information 11/18/23
The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, along with statewide resources, continued the search for Ann Herford who remains missing as of November 18, 2023. Today’s search has involved 120 searchers, (5) canine teams, neighborhood canvassing and aircraft. Due to adverse weather conditions, aerial search assignments were shortened but they are expected to resume when the weather improves. Search efforts are ongoing, and any updates will be provided as they become available. We would like to express our gratitude to Hazel Fischer Elementary for opening up their facility to aid resource staging and briefings.
Updated Information 11/17/23
Early this morning, the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue held a briefing and sent teams into the field in search of Missing Person Ann Herford. 79 searchers were deployed to search for her. The search effort is being coordinated by the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue, with support from other search teams from throughout the state.  As of this update, the missing person has not been located.  
Ann Herford, a 66-year-old traveling nurse practitioner, went missing after not showing up for work at Adventist Health in Sonora, CA. Ann was staying alone at the Best Western in Sonora and had expressed interest in hiking during a breakfast with a friend on the 11th.  A resident saw Ann near a trailhead where her car was found on the 15th. Family members note she enjoyed hiking but lacked wilderness survival skills, never planning more than a couple of miles at a time.

Update Information 11/16/23
As of November 16, 2023 The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team has expanded the search effort to locate Missing Person Ann Herford.  Search teams from throughout the State have been deployed to the search by the California Office of Emergency Service and include searchers from the California Rescue Dog Association, Bay Area Mountain Rescue Unit, Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, Marin County Sheriff’s Office, Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, United States Forest Service, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue, and air assets from the California Highway Patrol.  In total more than 64 searchers, 3 Canine teams, 2 UAV’s and 9 E-Bikes were deployed.   
As of this posting, the missing person has not been located.  The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office is requesting that persons in the area of the Lakemont subdivision which surround the Arnold Rim Trail check their immediate property and outbuildings.    
We would like to thank the Ebbetts Pass Moose Lodge (1123) for their support in providing lunches for the searchers.  The lunches were a welcome treat for the searches.

On November 15th, 2023 the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Arnold Rim Trail in Arnold, CA for a reported missing person.  Ann Herford, a 66-year-old hiker, has been missing on the Arnold Rim Trail.  Law enforcement agencies, including the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team, are actively searching the area to locate her.
