Carjacking Suspects Arrested

Two suspects involved in a carjacking were arrested by San Mateo Police Department

San Mateo, CA – The San Mateo Police Department arrested two suspects in connection to an armed carjacking that occurred on September 15, 2023.

On September 15, 2023, at 1217 p.m., the victim parked his work van near the intersection of 42nd Avenue and Edison Street.  After he parked, a white Infinity parked in front of his van, and two suspects got out of the Infinity.  The two suspects, both armed with a handgun, ordered the victim out of his work van and to the ground.  One of the suspects, later identified as Jose Ramirez Marquez, got into the victim’s van, and drove away.  The other suspect, later identified as Julio Villalobos, got back into the white Infinity, and drove away.

Officers arrived at the scene of the crime and spoke to the victim.  We passed information about the stolen vehicle to surrounding law enforcement departments.  Brisbane Police Department officers located the stolen van driving on Highway 101 and attempted to stop the van.  Ramirez Marquez attempted to flee officers and Brisbane officers pursued him.  Ramirez Marquez drove into San Francisco where he stopped, got out of the van, and started running away from officers.  Brisbane officers quickly caught up to him and safety apprehended him.  Ramirez Marquez was in possession of a loaded and unregistered pistol.  San Mateo Police Department officers responded and placed Ramirez Marquez under arrest.  He was booked into San Mateo County Jail.

The Investigations Bureau continued to investigate this crime.  During the investigation, Detectives spoke to witnesses, reviewed surveillance footage, authored search warrants, and gathered evidence.  Detectives ultimately were able to identify the second suspect as Julio Villalobos.  On November 16th, Villalobos was arrested and booked into Alameda County Santa Rita Jail.

Surveillance footage is extremely important when investigating crime.  We encourage our residents to register their home surveillance cameras with us.  You can securely register your home surveillance cameras on our website at Security Camera Registration | San Mateo, CA - Official Website (cityofsanmateo.org).
