HEAVY RAINFALL AND WIND GUSTS EXPECTED TODAY INTO MIDDAY TOMORROW. UTILIZE CAUTION IF TRAVELLING FOR THE HOLIDAY

NWS PHILADELPHIA / MOUNT HOLLY:

A storm system will affect the area today through midday Wednesday, and it may impact holiday travel. The system will bring the potential for some heavy, but mostly beneficial, rainfall and gusty winds as a cold front moves through the region. The latest messages regarding the system are below:

·  Heavy rainfall is possible at times, mainly during the overnight hours tonight into Wednesday morning.  The Weather Prediction Center has the southern half of our region in a Marginal Risk (1/4) for Excessive Rainfall. A widespread rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is expected. The potential for any flash flooding is low.  Any flooding should mainly be in poor drainage areas. A brief period of snow is possible in the southern Poconos to start before changing over to rain, with up to an inch of wet snow accumulation possible.
·  Winds increase this afternoon, and then the highest gusts are expected overnight tonight into Wednesday morning. Gusts will hover in the 25 to 35 MPH range with gusts of 40 to 45 MPH possible along the immediate coastline. Winds will subside by mid-Wednesday morning.
·  Minor coastal flooding is expected along the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay for the Tuesday night high tide cycle. Some spotty minor coastal flooding is possible along the south shore of the Raritan Bay from Perth Amboy to Sandy Hook. A Coastal Flood Advisory is now in effect for the high tide cycle tonight for the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
·   A Gale Warning is now in effect for all marine zones tonight into Wednesday morning. Gusts of 35 to 40 knots are expected along the waters. Seas on the ocean will be around 5 to 8 feet.
