INCIDENT: PC 29800(a)(1), Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Warrant Arrest
LOCATION: Highway 62 and Old Woman Springs Road, Yucca Valley, CA
SUSPECT(S): Thomas Higgins, 40-year-old resident of Yucca Valley
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY: On Thursday, November 16, 2023, deputies assigned to the Morongo Basin Station were working patrol in the town of Yucca Valley. Deputies observed a vehicle in violation of multiple vehicle code violations, and initiated a traffic stop. During the traffic stop, Thomas Higgins was identified as the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. During a subsequent records check, Higgins had several active felony and misdemeanor warrants for his arrest. Subsequent to his arrest, deputies conducted an inventory search of his vehicle and located a 9mm ghost gun.
In 2022, AB 1621 was signed into law. This law was enacted to circumvent disqualified persons, such as felons, from building, transferring, and/or the possession of unserialized firearms and precursor parts known as ghost guns.
Higgins was arrested for PC 29800 - Felon in Possession of a Firearm and several felony and misdemeanor warrants. He was booked at the Morongo Basin Jail where he is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
