Scammers are posing as employees of the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office, attempting to solicit payment and personal information over the phone. We want to ensure your safety and provide you with the necessary information to protect yourself.
Here's what you can do:
Verify Caller Identity: Always ask for the caller's full name, badge number, and a call-back number. 
Do Not Share Personal Information: Never share personal or financial information over the phone with unsolicited callers.
Contact the Sheriff's Office Directly: If you receive such a call contact the official Calaveras County Sheriff's Office at a publicly listed number to verify the information.
Report the Scam: If you have encountered this scam or received similar calls, please report it to the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at www.ftc.gov/complaint.
The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office never solicits payments over the telephone. Remember, scammers can be very convincing, so always exercise caution when dealing with unknown callers.
