Burglary Suspect Arrested After Running from and Resisting Officers

San Mateo, CA – On Friday, November 24, 2023, at approximately 1:01 a.m., officers from the San Mateo Police Department responded to a report of a male subject captured on video attempting to open the side gate of a residence in the 3900 block of Casanova Drive.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers began their investigation. While checking the residence, they heard the distinct sound of a gate closing at the property just south of the reported location. The officers observed a suspect, identified as Figueroa Moscoso, emerging from the side gate. In an attempt to evade law enforcement, Moscoso immediately fled southbound upon making eye contact with the officers.

A pursuit ensued, and officers successfully apprehended Moscoso in the 3900 block of Martin Drive. During the arrest, Moscoso assumed a fighting stance, leading to a controlled and safe apprehension. Unfortunately, two officers sustained minor injuries to their knees during the incident.

Moscoso did not sustain any injuries but was transported to the hospital for medical clearance. The investigation revealed that Moscoso had gained unauthorized entry through the side garage door of a residence in the 3900 block of Casanova Drive. The caretaker of the home discovered Moscoso in the kitchen, prompting Moscoso to flee the premises before being contacted by officers.

It was further determined that Moscoso was on supervised county probation, a registered sex offender (290 PC), and was equipped with an ankle monitor. In light of the incident, Moscoso has been booked into San Mateo County Jail on various charges.

Security camera footage is extremely important when investigating crime.  We encourage our residents to register their home surveillance cameras with us.  You can securely register your home surveillance cameras on our website at https://www.cityofsanmateo.org/2726.
