Unit(s) Responsible: Moorpark Police Department

Narrative:

The Moorpark Police Department is proud to announce another “Coffee with a Cop” event.  Coffee with a Cop brings the police department and community members together, over coffee, to discuss issues and learn more about resources, services, and needs of the community.

On Tuesday, December 12th, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am, Moorpark Chief of Police Darin Hendren, along with deputies from the Moorpark Police Station, will be at California Coffee Republic located at 330 Zachary St #109, in the city of Moorpark, sharing a cup of coffee with neighbors. In addition to their delicious coffee, California Coffee Republic will be providing their amazing mini-scones for the event!

Community trust is one of the key elements to the success of the Moorpark Police Department. By sitting down and having a simple conversation, deputies, and the community members they serve, can continue building and growing together.

The Moorpark Police Department invites the community to come out and ask questions, voice concerns, get crime prevention advice, and get to know the officers in your neighborhood, as well as meet representatives from the Crisis Intervention Team.  This is a relaxed, informal event and is not about speeches or agendas but simply about casual conversation.  Moorpark Police Department staff will also have handouts explaining our Volunteer in Policing program and our Explorer program, as well as scam and fraud prevention.  For our Spanish-speaking residents, we will have Spanish-speaking Deputies at the event.

Since 2001, the Ventura County Law Enforcement Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) has been a collaborative effort between all six Ventura County law enforcement agencies (Oxnard PD, Port Hueneme PD, Santa Paula PD, Simi Valley PD, Ventura PD, and the Sheriff’s Office), as well as Ventura County Behavioral Health, social service entities throughout Ventura County, the medical community, and the local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).  The CIT Program consists of extensive training in the of use of strategies and techniques intended to decrease the intensity of a situation, thereby allowing officers to provide assistance to those in crisis.

Members of our newly formed Home Security Assessment Team will also be present to discuss a free home security assessment offered to Moorpark residents.  Residents can schedule their free home security assessment at the event.

The goal of Coffee with a Cop is to get to know the community better and hear about issues the residents feel are important.  This community-building event promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie that make our neighborhoods safer.

Building relationships – one cup at a time.
