INCIDENT: Vehicle vs Pedestrian Fatal Traffic Crash
LOCATION: Bear Valley Road and Iroquois Road, Apple Valley
PEDESTRIAN: Unknown female adult
DRIVER: Ana Martinez (30), resident of Apple Valley
VEHICLE: White 2016 Chevrolet Traverse
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at approximately 5:50 p.m., deputies from the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station and rescue personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Department responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic crash on Bear Valley Road and Iroquois Road, in the town of Apple Valley.
Through investigation, deputies determined a white Chevrolet Traverse was traveling in the eastbound #1 lane of Bear Valley Road, approaching Iroquois Road. A female adult pedestrian was crossing south on Bear Valley Road and was struck by the Chevrolet. The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured and remained on scene to cooperate with the investigation.
Investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T) arrived and are conducting the investigation. Bear Valley Road was closed between the intersections of Itoya Vista Road and Snapping Turtle Road for approximately five hours while deputies processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.
The name of the deceased is pending positive identification and next of kin notification.
