Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a male juvenile.
During their investigation, Homicide investigators identified a second juvenile who accompanied the victim at the time of the incident. Investigators determined the juveniles were manipulating a firearm when it unintentionally discharged, causing grave injury to the victim.
The identification of the second juvenile will not be revealed due to their age.
Based on the investigator’s preliminary investigation, it has been determined the incident is not gang related.
The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office for review.

**1ST UPDATE:**
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Investigators are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a male juvenile.
Deputies from the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station responded to Sand Canyon Road south of Placerita Canyon Road in Canyon Country regarding a “person down” call.
When deputies arrived, they found the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel responded and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
During the course of the investigation, Homicide investigators learned the victim was in fact a minor. The investigators are looking into whether this incident is possibly gang related.
This investigation is ongoing and currently there is no additional information.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide investigators are responding to a shooting death investigation. The incident was reported Monday, November 6, 2023, at approximately 6:31 a.m., at the intersection of Sand Canyon Rd and Placerita Canyon in Canyon Country.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
