The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for... South Central St. Landry Parish in central Louisiana... Lafayette Parish in south central Louisiana... West Central St. Martin Parish in south central Louisiana... Acadia Parish in southwestern Louisiana... East Central Jefferson Davis Parish in southwestern Louisiana... Northwestern Vermilion Parish in southwestern Louisiana...

* Until 445 AM CST.

* At 134 AM CST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 0.75 to 1.5 inches in 1 hour. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Lafayette, Opelousas, Crowley, Jennings, Scott, Breaux Bridge, Rayne, Carencro, Church Point, Iota, Leonville, Arnaudville, Mermentau, Evangeline, Broussard, Youngsville, Sunset, Duson, Maurice and Grand Coteau. Reports of a stalled vehicle and significant street flooding on Ambassador Caffery Pkwy.

Instructions:

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
