IMPD Homicide Detectives Make Arrest from Thanksgiving Day Murder Investigation

INDIANAPOLIS – IMPD homicide detectives arrested 39-year-old Efrem Edmondson yesterday for his alleged role in the murder of 34-year-old Ousman Gasama.
 
On Thursday, November 23, 2023, at approximately 8:30 am, IMPD East District officers were dispatched to 259 N Shortridge Rd on a report of a person down in a courtyard.  When officers arrived, they located an adult male with unknown trauma deceased in the courtyard surrounded by multiple apartment buildings.  Officers followed a blood trail to an apartment in an apartment building south of the buildings surrounding this courtyard.
 
Homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. Detectives spoke with multiple people on the scene. 
 
The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner’s Office assisted and determined the exact manner and cause of death.
 
Detectives continued to investigate and, based on various evidence including cooperative witnesses, were able to identify Efrem Edmondson as the alleged suspect. Yesterday, through various investigative techniques, IMPD detectives along with the IMPD's Violent Crime Unit, located Edmondson in the 300 block of North Shortridge Road. Edmondson was taken into custody, transported to the homicide office for an interview, and subsequently arrested for murder.
 
A charge and arrest are merely an accusation. The suspect should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
