Suspects Arrested for Robbery After Brandishing a Gun and Stealing NOS Tanks from Victims

SUMMARY: On Sunday, November 26, 2023, the victims purchased nitrous oxide (NOS) at JZ Motorsport in the city of La Puente. When the victims left, they were followed by three subjects in a black 2006 Acura. The victims arrived at the 15100 block of Fairfield Rancho Road in the city of Chino Hills. They exited their vehicle and removed two 20lb NOS tanks, which were in a black duffle bag on the back seat. Two Hispanic male juveniles approached the victims and pointed a black semi-automatic pistol at them. The male victim struggled with the 15-year-old male suspect and the suspect dropped the pistol. The female victim, attempting to fend of the attackers, tried to pick up the pistol. The 17-year-old male suspect picked up the pistol before the female vicitm was able to. He pointed the pistol at the victims and took the duffle bag containeing the NOS tanks.
Deputies initiated an investigation and on Thursday, November 30, 2023, were notified that the Acura was stopped by deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, in the City of La Puente. Brian Avila and the two juvenile suspects were the occupants of the vehicle. Deputies responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Avila's vehicle was towed for evidence and a search warrant was authored. During the vehicle search, detectives discovered a NOS tank and an un-registered .357 semi-automatic pistol. Avila was arrested for PC 211 and booked at West Valley Detention Center. The juveniles were arrested for PC 211 and transported to San Bernardino County Juvenile Hall.
