Grandfather Ranger District, Pisgah National Forest - Fire Updates

CLEAR CREEK - Firefighters made progress yesterday and increased containment to 40%. The fire remains at 124 acres. 

LOCUST COVE #2 - Firefighters were able to increase containment to 25% yesterday. The fire remains at 165 acres.

Due to wet conditions, firefighters will be onsite and monitoring the limited fire activity on both Clear Creek and Locust Cove #2. People in nearby communities or traveling through the NC 80 corridor may smell "wet smoke", but smoke should not affect visibility based on predicted weather conditions. 

There have been no injuries or structures lost on either the Clear Creek or Locust Cove #2 wildfires. Each fire is being managed by a unified command between U.S. Forest Service - National Forests in North Carolina and N.C. Forest Service in close coordination with McDowell County 911 / Emergency Management.
