Incident Summary

On Saturday night, Petaluma PD deployed four officers to conduct DUI Saturation Patrol as part of our ongoing Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) Selective Traffic Enforcement Program Grant. These officers were specifically patrolling and looking for impaired drivers.  Between 7:00 PM and 2:30 AM, officers arrested 6 drivers for alcohol-related offenses.

Five of the drivers were arrested for driving while being over the .08% blood alcohol level legal limit, with three being over twice the legal limit. One was a 20-year-old who was found to be a .06% blood alcohol level and was observed driving while consuming the alcoholic beverage.

Another driver was arrested after colliding into a power pole on Lakeville St. and then into the guard rail, causing a significant power outage from the Petaluma Outlets to Lakeville St. and surrounding neighborhoods.

The Petaluma Police Department encourages people who visit and enjoy Petaluma to plan accordingly, designate a sober driver, use ride share, or call a taxi to avoid drinking and driving.  Driving Under the Influence is dangerous and preventable.

The Petaluma Police Department is committed to increasing overall traffic safety and reducing the number of alcohol-related collisions.  We will continue our efforts to locate and identify impaired drivers.  Drivers identified driving impaired and charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 to $20,000 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

If you witness a suspected DUI driver, the Petaluma Police Department encourages citizens to call 911.

Funding for the DUI Saturation Patrol was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
