INCIDENT: Penal Code 273a(b)- Child Endangerment
LOCATION: Yucca Valley High School - 7600 Sage Avenue, Yucca Valley
SUSPECT(S): Alice Barbee, 71-year-old resident of Twentynine Palms
VICTIM(S): Confidential 15-year-old resident of Yucca Valley
SUMMARY: On Monday, December 4, 2023, at approximately 8:33 a.m., deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station responded to Yucca Valley High School to investigate allegations of an assault on a student by a staff member. The staff member was separated from the student, and the student was not injured as a result of the confrontation. Both administrative and criminal investigations were immediately launched.
At the conclusion of the investigation, the Morongo Unified School District placed the substitute teacher on administrative leave. Deputies from the Morongo Basin Station conducted their criminal investigation and the report is being forwarded to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office for review and potential filing of criminal charges.
The Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station and the Morongo Unified School District continue to collaborate to ensure the safety of students and staff members within the district.
