DETAILS: On 12/4/23, just before midnight, Amarillo Police were called to the 800 block of North Nelson after receiving a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, they discovered a male, identified as Jose Roberto Gutierrez-Torres, 38 years of age, lying in the driveway of a residence. It was determined that Gutierrez-Torres had been shot and was deceased. The Homicide Unit was called in to investigate and found that Gutierrez-Torres had attempted to enter another residence by kicking the front door. The homeowner, in an act of self-defense, shot Gutierrez-Torres as he entered the residence. The homeowner was later detained and interviewed by homicide detectives before being released. This incident is still being investigated by the Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit.
