Menorah lighting Sunday; Traffic impacts; Holiday parking and toy drive reminder.

Join the annual Menorah lighting 

The City of Hoboken invites residents to celebrate Chanukah at the annual menorah lighting on Sunday, Dec. 10, at 4 p.m. The free family friendly celebration, at Hoboken City Hall, 94 Washington St., is co-hosted by the Chabad of Hoboken and Jersey City, and will feature a gelt drop by the Hoboken Fire Department, speakers, prayers, music, and holiday treats. Come early to enjoy entertainment including a fire juggler, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Please be advised of street closures in the area between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. including: 

  • Washington Street between Observer Highway and First Street.
  • Newark Street between Hudson and Bloomfield Streets.
  • First Street between Bloomfield and Washington Streets.  

NJ Transit buses will be re-routed onto Bloomfield and Hudson Streets during this time. Please abide by posted "no parking" signs and prepare for traffic delays in the immediate area. Hoboken Police will be on hand to assist with detours and other traffic impacts.  

City continues to offer holiday parking options

The City of Hoboken is offering free parking for up to four hours in municipal Garage B (28 Second Street), Garage D (215 Hudson Street), and the Midtown Garage (371 Fourth Street) on weekends to promote local shopping and dining this holiday season. To redeem the free parking, drivers will need to show the garage attendant a receipt showing a purchase of at least $20 at a Hoboken shopping or dining establishments. The discount will be offered through Dec. 31, 2023.  
The City will also offer discounted metered on-street parking through Dec. 31. Drivers can use promo code "SHOPHOB" in the ParkMobile app to receive 50 percent off parking sessions. Fifty percent off parking sessions will be valid in select zones, primarily in business districts, and can be viewed by clicking here

The City also offers a parking reservations program, which allows residents and visitors to reserve a parking space in advance in Municipal Garage B at 28 Second St., Garage D at 215 Hudson St., and the Midtown Garage at 371 Fourth St. Users can reserve a space in one of the garages via the ParkMobile app Monday through Thursday from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., and from 6 p.m. on Friday to midnight on Sunday.

Donate to the Hoboken Police Toy Drive      

The Hoboken Police Department is collecting donations for the third annual Sgt. Peter Zanin "Peachy" toy drive, which will be donated to local families in need. Donors can drop off new, unwrapped toys at the following locations thru Dec. 13:

  • Hoboken City Hall, 94 Washington St. between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.   
  • Hoboken Police Department, 106 Hudson St. 24/7     
  • Hoboken Fire Department, 1313 Washington St. between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.    

Hoboken Police will host pop-up drop-off events at:  

  • The Artisan Market, under the 14th Street Viaduct on Dec. 10 from 11 a.m. through 4 p.m.  
  • 626 Washington St. on Dec. 11, from 11 a.m. through 8 p.m.
