INCIDENT TYPE: Motor vehicle x 2 vs Semi collision, IH-40/Lakeside

DETAILS: On December 6, 2023, at approximately 10:51 pm, Officers were dispatched to a major crash involving 2 sports cars and a semi at Lakeside and IH-40. On arrival, Officers found that a black Ford Mustang and a green Chevy Camaro had been traveling side by side SB on Lakeside at a high rate of speed. The semi was EB exiting the Toot n’ Totum parking lot onto Lakeside. The 2 sports cars struck the trailer attached to the semi and were wedged under the trailer. The driver of the Mustang identified as Juan Jose Flores Jr, 21, died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the Camaro received minor injuries. Judge Robert Taylor was notified and responded to the scene. The next of kin for Mr. Flores was notified. The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Dept.
