Report Number: 23-5318
Occurred Date : December 6, 2023
Occurred Time:  8:14 PM
Location: 500 Block of Madison Street
Suspect:  Eliaser Hernandez-Valadez, 33-year-old Santa Rosa Resident
Charges: Criminal Trespassing and Resisting Arrest

Incident Summary

On Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at approximately 8:14 PM, Officers assigned to the Petaluma Police Department Community Impact Response Team (CIRT) responded to a video burglary alarm in the 500 block of Madison Street. The video alarm was in a new subdivision which is currently under construction and surrounded by a fence with a locked gate.

CIRT officers arrived on scene and located Eliaser Hernandez-Valadez within the fenced area and inside one of the homes’ garages. When Hernandez-Valadez saw the Officers, he fled on foot ignoring their commands to stop. CIRT officers initiated a foot pursuit which led them through the complex, over a fence, and onto the Lynch Creek Trail path. Once Hernandez-Valadez entered the creek path, CIRT officers lost sight of him due to the darkness.

A large perimeter was quickly established, and assistance was requested from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office helicopter “Henry-1”. Once Henry-1 arrived on scene, the crew quickly located Hernandez-Valadez within the perimeter hiding along the creek path, behind a flood wall barrier. The Henry-1 crew was able to safely guide officers to Hernandez-Valadez’s location where he was taken into custody without further incident.

Hernandez-Valadez was later transported and booked into the Sonoma County Jail Main Adult Detention Facility for Criminal Trespassing and Resisting Arrest.

The Petaluma Police Department would like to thank the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Henry-1 crew for their assistance with this incident and their willingness to always help. The helicopter Henry-1 has proven to be an invaluable asset for law enforcement and has undoubtedly kept our community and officers safer. This incident is an excellent example of the coordination and collaboration between Sonoma County Law Enforcement agencies which occurs daily in our communities.
