Clayton County Citizens Inmate releases will be delayed due to GBI’s system being down SHERIFF LEVON ALLEN
On 12/07/2023 The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s (GBI) Crime Information Center (GCIC) Computerized Criminal History (CCH) system is down.
The Clayton County Sheriff's Office Staff immediately contacted the GBI for a timeline or Eta restoring the service. There was no estimate given.
The CCH system is a critical component when releasing inmates. When this system is down, criminal histories and holds from other Georgia counties can’t be verified.
For example, if someone is arrested in Clayton County for shoplifting and bonds out while the system is down, hypothetically, the releasing agency would not have the means to know if the individual is wanted out of another jurisdiction for murder.
To keep the citizens of Clayton County safe and to prevent a violent incident in the area, no inmates will be released until the GBI corrects this issue.
The GBI was contacted today at 3:35pm, and it was stated to us that there was no ETA on when the issue would be resolved. At 6:00pm, the GBI was contacted again, and it was stated again “no ETA” on when the issue would be resolved. However, they are working with a vendor to resolve the issue.
This results in inmates' bonds in Clayton County not being processed in a timely manner.
If you have any concerns in regard to the system being backed up, please contact The GBI for further inquiries.
