Advisory
Sheriff Richard J. Behnke, reports that on 12/07/2023 at approximately 2019 hours his office investigated a personal injury crash on Bulhand Street near the intersection of Calvin Center Road, Calvin Township, Cass County, Michigan.
Investigation showed that Trisha Smith (38-Year-old Granger Indiana resident) was traveling eastbound on Bulhand Street when she struck a parked grain cart in the eastbound lane on Bulhand Street. Trisha and her passenger Debra Swiental (48-Year-old Cassopolis resident) had to be extracted from the vehicle and transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained from the crash. Smith was transported via Parkview Samaritan Helicopter and Swiental was transported via SEPSA/Porter Ambulance. The driver of the grain cart did not sustain any injuries in the crash.
Seatbelts were worn by both subjects. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor. Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Cassopolis Police Department, Central Cass Fire Department, Penn Township Fire Department, SEPSA/Porter Ambulance, SMCAS Ambulance, and Parkview Samaritan Air Ambulance. This crash remains under investigation.
