DETAILS: On December 7, 2023, at approximately 10:00 pm, Officers were dispatched to a major crash involving 2 vehicles at 605 Spur 228. On arrival, Officers found a red Toyota sedan with extensive damage to the passenger side. Officers also found a Gray Nissan sedan with extensive front distributed damage. The Toyota had been traveling SB on Spur 228 when the driver lost control, causing the Toyota to go into a side skid and into oncoming traffic. The Nissan was NB on Spur 228. The front distributed of the Nissan struck the passenger side of the Toyota. The driver of the Toyota ID as Joseph Hunter Kiliewer, 18, died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The occupants in the Nissan received life-threatening injuries and were transported to an area hospital. Speed is a factor in this crash. Judge Robert Taylor was notified and responded to the scene. The next of kin for Mr. Kiliewer was notified. The Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Dept is investigating the incident.
