Wilmington Police charge three males in connection with two October armed robberies:
Wilmington Police have charged three males in connection with two October armed robberies.
On October 21, at approximately 8:00 p.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 1100 block of Maryland Avenue, and the area of Chestnut and South VanBuren Streets, in reference to two armed robbery incidents.
Responding officers provided a description of the suspect vehicle, which was located by members of the Safe Streets Task Force at approximately 8:11 p.m. in the 100 block of Greenhill Avenue. Police attempted to conduct a vehicle stop, at which time the vehicle fled the area. The vehicle was subsequently located in Pennsylvania, and 28-year-old Malik Wilson was taken into custody without incident.
The case was assigned to Detective Justin Wilkers of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Wilkers identified 35-year-old Luis Ortiz and 24-year-old Aaron Watson as additional suspects, and obtained warrants for their arrest.
On October 26, members of the Uniformed Services Division conducted a motor vehicle stop in the 400 block of North Scott Street, and took Luis Ortiz into custody without incident. On December 6, police observed Aaron Watson in the 600 block of North Washington Street. Officers attempted to make contact with Watson, who fled on foot and discarded a firearm. Watson was taken into custody without incident and police recovered a loaded 9mm handgun.
Malik Wilson was extradited to Delaware on November 1, and has been charged with the following offenses:
- Robbery (First Degree) – Three Counts
- Possession of a Firearm By a Person Prohibited
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Conspiracy (Second Degree)
Luis Ortiz has been charged with the following offenses:
- Robbery (First Degree) – Three Counts
- Possession of a Firearm By a Person Prohibited
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Conspiracy (Second Degree)
Aaron Watson has been charged with the following offenses:
- Robbery (First Degree) – Three Counts
- Possession of a Firearm By a Person Prohibited –Two Counts
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
- Conspiracy (Second Degree)
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
- Resisting Arrest
- Criminal Mischief Under $1,000
