Advisory

NWS Flood Watch issued; Avoid flood-prone areas

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Hudson County, including Hoboken for Sunday, Dec. 10, through early Monday, Dec. 11. 2 to 3 inches of rainfall is likely, with locally higher amounts possible. Due to heavy rain overnight, flooding is possible in low-lying areas, particularly during high tide, which is at approximately 6:41 p.m. on Sunday.    Avoid flood-prone areas     The Office of Emergency Management reminds residents to avoid flood-prone areas. Intense rainfall of greater than 0.8 inch per hour could result in flooding in low-lying areas. Barricades have been deployed near flood-prone intersections. Do not walk or drive through barricades or flooded areas.    Please report flooded intersections and clogged drain inlets by calling the NHSA Hotline at (866) 689-3970   Secure loose objects     Hoboken could experience wind gusts of up to 30 mph.    Residents should secure all loose objects outside or bring them inside, especially from balconies. Outdoor tents should be taken down depending on the wind load.    Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines, resulting in power outages.    Please report power outages and downed wires to PSEG at https://nj.myaccount.pseg.com/myservicepublic/outagepublic.     Remain alert, stay informed, and exercise caution    Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts regularly and are encouraged to follow the City’s social media accounts for storm updates including the Hoboken OEM Twitter page at @HobokenOEM, the City’s Twitter page at @CityofHoboken, and the Hoboken Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/Hoboken. Residents, business owners, and other stakeholders are also encouraged to sign up to receive updates via the Nixle System by visiting: www.hobokennj.gov/alerts.
