Hollister Police Animal Care and Services Investigate Found Emaciated Dog

HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – December 11, 2023 –On November 23, 2023, Hollister Police Animal Care and Services received a report of an emaciated, grey and white, female, Pitbull type dog in the area of Shore Road.  A Good Samaritan was able to contain the animal and contact the after hours, on call, Animal Control Officer.

Hollister Police Animal Care and Services stabilized the animal over the Thanksgiving holiday closure, and transported it to the veterinarian for treatment over the weekend.

In an attempt to locate a potential owner for the animal, Animal Control Officers canvassed the area in which the animal was found, and contacted neighboring businesses to review video surveillance footage.  Animal Control Officers conducted interviews with various individuals.  An owner for the animal was located after a Facebook post of the animal reached hundreds of views and shares.

Further investigation revealed that the owner of the animal had been searching for their pet for several months.  The animal had managed to escape the property it was being housed at several months ago.  Despite the owner’s diligent efforts to locate their pet, they were unable to find her.  The animal has been reunited with its owner and is on a treatment plan prescribed by the treating veterinarian.  Animal Control Officers will continue to follow up to ensure the animal’s continuous recovery.

Hollister Police Animal Care and Services would like to remind the public that placing a collar and tag on your animal with current contact information is helpful in reuniting lost animals with their owners.  In addition to a collar and tag, a microchip is another way of identifying your animal and reuniting them with their families as soon as possible.  The Hollister Animal Shelter can assist with the microchipping of your pet during business hours.  Those wishing to learn more about this service are asked to contact (831) 636-4320.  Individuals with additional information regarding this case are asked to contact our office at the number listed above.
