Coastal storm recap; Flu & COVID vaccine clinic tomorrow; Santa Claus to tour Hoboken tonight

Storm recap and clean-up efforts

The overnight coastal storm dropped approximately 2.5 inches of rain between Sunday night and Monday morning, with a peak 15-minute intensity of .84 inches an hour at 2:30 a.m. Low lying areas of Hoboken can experience flooding if the City experiences more than 0.8 inches an hour.

The H1 and H5 Pump Stations were online and combined pumped approximately 15.8 million gallons of water off the streets of Hoboken. The City's underground water retention systems in Hoboken's resiliency parks also ran normally and filled with stormwater. This helped clear flooded roads and intersections of water, allowing crews with the Department of Environmental Services to clear roads of windblown debris. Department staff will continue cleanup efforts and power wash streets through tomorrow.

Flu and Covid-19 Vaccine Clinic TOMORROW

The City of Hoboken and Hudson Regional Health Commission will host a COVID-19 and flu vaccine clinic on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Hoboken Multi-Service Center, 124 Grand St.

Appointments are strongly recommended and can be made online at https://www.hudsoncovidvax.org/. Call (201) 223-1133 or email [email protected] with any questions.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is warning of an urgent need to increase vaccinations against illness such as influenza and COVID-19 due to low vaccination rates. These low rates, coupled with ongoing increases in respiratory disease activity caused by multiple pathogens including flu, covid, and RSV, could lead to more severe disease and increased strain on healthcare capacity in recent weeks.
