Deputies Investigating Child Abuse Arrest Suspect on Weapons and Drug Charges

SUSPECT(S): Marcus Newmann, 33- years-old, Resident of San Bernardino

SUMMARY: On Monday, December 4, 2023, Deputies Kwantee Cannon and Daniel Price with the Sheriff's Central Station conducted a child abuse investigation in the 4000 block of Lorraine Drive in San Bernardino. While Cannon and Price were inside the incident location, they observed a large quantity of psilocybin mushrooms in plain view and within reach of two young children.
Price authored a search warrant for the residence and recovered a loaded 45-caliber handgun, a large quantity of psilocybin mushrooms, a five-gallon bucket containing marijuana extract (honey oil), and a large quantity of processed marijuana.
During the investigation, Cannon and Price discovered the suspect, Marcus Newmann, had fled the incident location out of the back door as deputies arrived on scene. Newmann was apprehended a short time later and placed under arrest for PC 273a(a), PC 29800(a)(1), HS 11370.1(a), and HS 11378. Newmann was booked at the Central Detention Center and remains in custody on $120,000.00 bail.
