Fair Lawn Emergency Management is monitoring a major coastal storm that will affect our area from early this afternoon, December 17, 2023, through Monday afternoon. The heaviest rain bands will arrive late this evening and continue through the early morning hours. Total rainfall is expected to be around 2-4 inches for the entire event. Excessive runoff may result in flash flooding of rivers, small creeks, streams, and other low lying and flood prone locations. Urban flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas is likely. This will be quicker than usual because the ground is already wet from last storm.

Moderate tidal flooding is possible for this event. The Passaic River may see moderate flooding during the early morning Monday high tide and the Monday afternoon high tide.

Passaic River High Tide at East Rutherford: Monday, December 18 – 12:19 a.m. Monday, December 18 – 12:33 p.m.

Saddle River at Lodi is expected to crest Monday at 1800 hours at 6.3 ft.

Winds on Sunday will be 10-20 mph, with gusts to 25 mph. Winds ramp up Monday to 15-25 mph, with gusts to 35 mph. Winds may cause down tree limbs, resulting in power outages.

Do not call the Police Department to report a power outage or to ask when power will be restored.
