12/18/23 11:30 update

This message is from The Fairfield Office of Emergency Management regarding flooding preparedness.

The Passaic River is now projected to rise to 22’ by Tuesday 12/19/2023 at 11 am.  With these levels, the township is expected to have moderate to major flooding that may affect homes and businesses.

Those homes that are located in flood prone areas and are ground level or have basements should move their valuables to a higher floor or attempt to elevate them if possible.  It is important to know that if your basement does flood do not rush to pump it out until the water around the home has receded.  All citizens and business owners are encouraged to avoid non-essential travel as many roadways will become impassable beginning later today.  Do not drive through standing water as this could be extremely dangerous.

The Township will be setting up a sandbag station at 1pm today (12/18/2023), located at the Fairfield Library, which will be open for township residents only.

You can find updates on the Township website www.fairfieldnj.org, channel 34 or 43, and we will be broadcasting important information through our NIXLE system as well as other social media platforms.
