Newark, Calif. – On December 16, 2023 one driver was arrested for DUI (driving under the influence), one driver arrested for a DUI warrant and for operating a motor vehicle without a court ordered ignition interlock device (vehicle breathalyzer device designed to prevent intoxicated driving), and another was arrested for being in possession of a controlled substance. Additionally, Officers issued 21 citations for either driving without a DL (driver license) or for driving a suspended/revoked license.
The DUI/DL Checkpoint was held near the intersection of Thornton Avenue and Newark Boulevard from 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM.
DUI/DL checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.
The next DUI checkpoint will be held during the National Summer DUI Mobilization in late 2024.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
