Newark Police Department Crime Blotter Dec 11 - 17, 2023

The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community. 

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 12, 2023: 

8:22 AM: Officer Lara investigated a report of a stolen vehicle from the 7800 block of Thronton Avenue.

11:33 AM: Officer C. Torres investigated a report of a residential burglary that occurred in the 39900 block of Cedar Boulevard. The suspects entered the residence by using keys from a lockbox. The loss was a television.

12:35 PM: Officer Lara recovered an unoccupied stolen vehicle in the 35900 block of Firestone Court.

2:24 PM: Officer McCuin investigated a vandalism to a vacant business in the 5600 block of Jarvis Avenue. The armed security guard reported someone had broken a window to the building and requested NPD search the building. It appeared that damage was caused during an attempt to steal copper from the business.

4:48 PM: Officer C. Torres investigated a carjacking. The suspect went to a car dealership in a neighboring city and took a vehicle on a test drive. During the test drive, the suspect stopped in the area of Milani Avenue and ordered the car salesman (Victim) out of the vehicle while brandishing a knife. The suspect fled in the vehicle and the victim was not injured.

The stolen vehicle was later located by a neighboring Agency and towed as evidence. The case was forwarded to the Detectives Division.

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2023: 

3:24 PM: Officer Williams was dispatched to a restaurant for a report of a male subject seen looking over the bathroom stall in the women’s restroom. Officer Williams saw the subject in the area. Upon attempting to contact the subject, he immediately fled. Officer Williams located and identified him as a 29-year-old unsheltered male. Officer Williams is working with the victim and is actively investigating the incident.

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2023: 

9:00 AM: Officer Orozco investigated a domestic violence incident that occurred on Bennington Drive. A 61-year-old female out of Newark was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

12:54 PM: Officer Williams investigated a report of a stolen vehicle from the 8400 block of Central Avenue.

4:33 PM: Community Service Officer Vuong investigated the report of a stolen vehicle from the 38800 block of Myoporum Place.

5:10 PM: Community Service Officer Vuong investigated the report of a catalytic converter theft from the 39800 block of Eureka Drive.

 5:19 PM: Community Service Officer Vuong investigated the report of a stolen vehicle from the 39800 block of Eureka Drive.

 7:43 PM: Officers responded to an armed robbery involving a handgun that just occurred at a business on Cedar Boulevard. The clerk provided a suspect description and Officer Losier located the suspect after a foot pursuit. The 18-year-old male out of Hayward was taken into custody and booked at Santa Rita Jail. Officers recovered the loss from the robbery and the suspect provided a full confession.

 FRIDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2023: 

5:24 AM: Officer Cervantes investigated a commercial burglary on Newark Boulevard. Loss was a card reader.

8:30 AM: Officer Torres recovered an unoccupied stolen vehicle in the 36100 block of Ruschin Drive.

8:46 AM: Officer Williams was dispatched to a male slumped over the wheel in the area of Cherry Street and Dairy Avenue. As he arrived on scene, he observed the vehicle leaving the area. The driver, a 38-year-old male out of Newark, made an illegal U-turn and was unable to maintain his lane. Officer Williams initiated a traffic enforcement stop and ultimately arrested him for driving under the influence and probation violations.

8:51 AM: Officer Torres investigated a theft of a vehicle from the 6200 block of Joaquin Murieta.

5:25 PM: Officer Orozco investigated a burglary of a United States Postal Services mail truck while parked in the 35000 block of Buckingham Drive.

 SATURDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2023: 

2:46 AM: Officers responded to Cedar Boulevard for a report of a domestic violence incident. Officer Herrera arrested a 42-year-old male out of Newark for domestic violence. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

3:03 PM: Officer Quinonez was dispatched to a parking lot on Thornton Avenue for a male subject slumped over the wheel of a vehicle. Officer Quinonez arrived and contacted the driver/sole occupant of the vehicle, a 41-year-old male out of Newark. Officer Quinonez determined he was under the influence and placed him under arrest. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

8:40 PM: Officers responded to Newark Boulevard and Central Avenue for a report of an intoxicated subject stumbling in the street. Officer Swadener located a 27-year-old male out of Newark and arrested him for being drunk in public. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2023:

12:39 AM: Officer Riddles stopped a 26-year-old female out of Vallejo and determined she was driving under the influence. She was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

2:42 PM: Officer McCuin located an unoccupied stolen vehicle in the 6700 block of Flanders Drive.
